Istikhara Ki Dua

Istikhara is a way to seek goodness from Allah when facing an important decision or task, asking the Almighty, the Knower of the Unseen, to guide us toward what’s better. The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to teach his companions to make Salaat al-Istikharah in all matters, just like he taught surahs from the Quran.

As reported by Jaabir ibn Abd-Allaah al-Salami (may Allah be pleased with him), one should pray two rakats of non-obligatory prayer and then say the special supplication. Many look for istikhara ki dua short, or versions like istikhara ki dua in English, with Urdu translation, in Arabic, or specifically istikhara ki dua for marriage.

Signs for istikhara

It is essential to grasp the profound simplicity of the du’a taught by our Prophet ﷺ. Istikhara is a sincere prayer for guidance, a humble request for Allah to pave the way for what is beneficial and to divert us from what is detrimental. It is not a search for signs, but a plea for divine wisdom and clarity.

English:

O Allah! I seek goodness from You through Your knowledge and seek power from You through Your power, and I ask You from Your immense favor. For surely, You have power and I do not, You know and I do not, and You are the Knower of the unseen.O Allah! If You know that this matter (mention your matter here) is good for me in my religion, my livelihood, and for my life in the Hereafter – or he said: in the near and distant future – then decree it for me, make it easy for me, and bless it for me. And if You know that this matter is bad for me in my religion, my livelihood, and my life in the Hereafter – or he said: in the near and distant future – then turn it away from me, and turn me away from it, and decree good for me wherever it may be, and make me content with it.
