Dua For Entering and Leaving the Masjid

Some places on earth bring a special peace, and Masajid are among the most special. Every visit to a Masjid, from entering to leaving, carries great benefit when done with intention. The dua-for-entering-and-leaving-the-masjid is part of the Sunnah taught by Nabi ﷺ.

Taking time to spend in the Masjid helps us learn and grow spiritually. Returning regularly strengthens our connection and purpose. These moments in the Masjid are precious opportunities to reflect and renew.

Dua for entering the Masjid:

اَللَّهُـمَّ افْتَـحْ لِي أَبْوَابَ رَحْمَتـِكَ

Allahum-maftah lee abwaba rahmatik
اے اللہ میرے لیے اپنی رحمت کے دروازے کھول دے۔
“O Allah, open the gates of Your mercy for me.”

Dua for Leaving the Masjid:

اَللّٰهُمَّ إنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ مِنْ فَضْلِكَ

Allaahumma ‘innee as’aluka min fadhlik
اے اللہ میں تجھ سے تیرے فضل کا سوال کرتا ہوں۔

“O Allah, I ask for Your favour.”

 

Sunnahs to Follow When Entering and Leaving the Masjid:


1.  Enter the Masjid with the right foot and exit with the left foot.

2.  Before entering, say Bismillah, send Durood on Nabi ﷺ, and seek forgiveness.

3.  The full dua for entering from Ibn Majah:

“Bismillahi Wassalamu ‘Ala Rasulillah, Allahum-maghfirli Dhunubi Waftah Lee Abwaba Rahmatik.”
(In the name of Allah, and peace be upon the Messenger of Allah. O Allah, forgive my sins and open for me the doors of Your mercy.)

4.  Similarly, when leaving, recite:

“Bismillahi Wassalamu ‘Ala Rasulillah, Allahum-maghfirli Dhunubi Waftah Lee Abwaba Fadhlik.”
(In the name of Allah, and peace be upon the Messenger of Allah. O Allah, forgive my sins and open for me the doors of Your bounty.)

5.  After entering, perform Tahiyyatul Masjid (the greeting prayer of the Masjid).

6.  Engage in Dhikr and Ibadah while inside, making the most of your time in this blessed space.

Benefits of Reading the Du’as for Entering and Leaving the Masjid:

  1. Reward of a Sunnah
    By reading these Du’as, we earn the reward and blessings of following a Sunnah of our beloved Nabi ﷺ.
  2. Entering with Hope in Allah’s Mercy
    We enter the Masjid seeking Allah Ta’ala’s mercy and leave with hope in His favour and bounty.
  3. Purposeful Worship
    These Du’as remind us why we enter the Masjid—not just as a habit, but with a purpose of connecting to Allah.
  4. Acknowledging Our Dependence on Allah
    Though coming to the Masjid is a physical action, these Du’as help us recognize that true benefit comes only by asking Allah Ta’ala sincerely.

Dua for Going to the Masjid:

Arabic:

اللَّهُمَّ اجْعَلْ فِي قَلْبِي نُورًا، وَفِي لِسَانِي نُورًا، وَاجْعَلْ فِي سَمْعِي نُورًا، وَاجْعَلْ فِي بَصَرِي نُورًا، وَاجْعَلْ مِنْ خَلْفِي نُورًا، وَمِنْ أَمَامِي نُورًا، وَاجْعَلْ مِنْ فَوْقِي نُورًا، وَمِنْ تَحْتِي نُورًا، اللَّهُمَّ أَعْطِنِي نُورًا

Urdu:

اے اللہ میرے دل میں نور، میری زبان پر نور، میری سماعت میں نور، میری نظر میں نور، میرے پیچھے نور، میرے سامنے نور، میرے اوپر نور اور میرے نیچے نور کر۔ اے اللہ مجھے نور عطا فرما۔

Translation:

O Allah, place light in my heart, light on my tongue, light in my hearing, light in my sight, light behind me, light in front of me, light above me, and light beneath me. O Allah, grant me light!
