The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) had a night ritual before sleep that’s recorded in hadith and varies in narration. Ending a long day with the remembrance of Allah (SWT) keeps faith at the forefront of our minds. His life is a model for us to follow in likeliness and practice.
Words of the Prophet Before Sleep:
It was reported in Hadith like Al-Bukhari that the Prophet would lay his hand under his cheek and supplicate: “Allahumma bismika amutu wa ahya.” Upon waking, he’d say: “Al-hamdu lillahil-ladhee ahyana ba’da ma amatana, wa ilaihin-nushur.” These duʿās, adhkār, and remembrances help us recite with conviction, yaqīn, and presence of heart.
