In Islam, eating is not just for growth or getting nutrients. It’s a holistic part of our faith and tradition. We say a Dua to remember that food is a gift from Allah. It should be lawful, good, and bring well-being to the consumer, both mentally and physically.
As Muslims, we follow the prophetic way by avoiding excessive eating and using smart dietary tips. Even non-Muslims now see the value in this habit. It helps us live a better life, make healthy choices, and follow the commands in the verse we hear everyday.
Allah’s Command on What We Should Eat
Allah s.w.t. commands us to only eat foods that are considered lawful (Halal). This guidance ensures that what we consume is not just allowed, but also good for our health and well-being.
Quranic Reminder
The Qur’an teaches us clearly:

Dua Before Eating
The Prophet s.a.w. was blessed with food and always praised Allah s.w.t. by acknowledging His blessings before eating. He taught us to recite the Name of Allah at the beginning of every pleasant task or deed.
Saying Bismillah before eating makes the meal special and reminds us to be thankful.
Thus, before we eat, we should recite:
However, in case of forgetting to recite the Bismillah and we are already halfway eating our meal, we may recite:
Dua After Eating
The Prophet s.a.w. made it a practice to praise Allah s.w.t. after eating. The Messenger said that whoever has taken food and says at the end, “All praise is due to Allah Who has given me food to eat and provided it without endeavour or power,” will have all past sins forgiven.
This small Dua brings big rewards. I’ve made it a habit after meals, and it’s a moment of peace.
